‘Dum Maaro Dum’, set to hit theatres soon, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. However, both Abhishek Bachchan and director Rohan Sippy feel that the film is a wholesome entertainer and will click with the audiences.

Fox Star Entertainment’s and R S Enterprises’ film, Dum Maaro Dum (DMD), is all set to entertain the audiences, if director Rohan Sippy and lead actor Abhishek Bachchan live up to their words.

Dum Maaro Dum is Rohan Sippy's third film in 10 years after Kuch Na Kaho and Bluffmaster.

Almost six years after their last collaboration, Bluffmaster!, the childhood buddies come together in this action thriller.

Is it an anti-drug film?

Says Rohan, "No, it's a suspense thriller, driven by a cop who is at the heart of investigating a drug mafia and trying to get to who is behind it. That really is the overriding arch of the film. It's not a film about tripping."

The film that stars Abhishek Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Prateik Babbar and Bipasha Basu took two years to make since the day Rohan read the novella. Rohan started shoot a year back and wrapped it up by July last year.

Abhishek swaps role once again

Not many know it, but actor Abhishek Bachchan has for the second time taken on a role not originally meant for him.

The character of a cop in his upcoming film " Dum Maaro Dum", directed by Rohan Sippy, was first supposed to be played by Telugu star Rana Daggubati.

"When Rohan came to me with this film, he wanted me to play the role of DJ Joki, the role that Rana is playing now," Abhishek, who celebrated his 35th birthday in February, told.

"But when I read the script, I told him that I want to do ACP Vishnu Kamath's role instead, because I felt I would be able to do that role better and Rohan agreed."

"I liked the attitude of this character. I liked the way he tackled situations in life and that's the reason I did it," said Abhishek, who sports a gelled look in the film.

Earlier, when he was offered 'Bluffmaster' (2005), in which he co-starred with Riteish Deshmukh, he was to play some other role than the one he eventually did.

Says Abhishek, “There is a lot of freshness in this film, and Pratik and Rana, with whom I am working for the first time, are very talented co-stars. Bipasha is an old associate, and we all know that good co-stars always boost one’s performance. We all knew exactly what we had to do on the sets.”

Admitting that thrillers have been his favourite genre and that he has done a fair share of roles as a cop (Zameen, Game, the Dhoom franchise, Shootout At Lokhandwala), Abhishek adds that each cop has been different in concept, characterisation and body language. "In Game, I was an undercover cop, but in DMD, I play a cop who is working openly on a case."
