Nature is his guru and he considers himself a life-long student of history. And with his latest offering, 'Urumi' a mega-budget costume drama to be released in four languages, acclaimed cinematographer and filmmaker Santosh Sivan is combining both.

The film, produced by Shaji Nadesan, has Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Arya, Genelia, Nithya Menen , Jagathi Sreekumar in the lead and special appearances by Vidya Balan and Tabu.

Urumi - the movie captures the emotions of people of 15th century Kerala. Kelu Nayanar (Prithviraj) is the central character, who takes on the might of Vasco De Gama.

The censor board officials have not only cleared the film with a clean 'U' certificate without any cuts, but also appreciated the multi-lingual film.

"When I am making a film I am not thinking of money or fame, I am a very non-ambitious filmmaker that way. I want to make films about subjects that move me and I am fascinated by history. 'Urumi' is an attempt to take a second look at the glorified story of Vasco Da Gama," the four-time National Award winning Sivan said in an interview.

Sify says in its review: Santosh Sivan's Urumi is a miniature masterpiece of moods, emotions, anxieties ruled by a thirst for revenge. The film unfolds like a ballad and is a sweet and simple fairy tale.
